United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2006 This recognises that every person must be empowered to participate in society and to live life to his or her fullest potential. This universal, legally binding standard ensures that the rights of persons with disabilities are guaranteed. Ireland has signed but not yet ratified the Convention. In other words, Ireland has demonstrated agreement with what the Convention represents, but is not yet legally obliged to comply with all articles in the Convention.
